The Original Margarita was born in Acapulco, Mexico in 1948, from the creative mind of Margaret “Margarita” Sames, an American socialite known for hosting notoriously lavish parties.
First nicknamed "The Drink" before becoming "The Margarita", the recipe brings together its creator's two favorite spirits, Cointreau and tequila—shaken with lime juice for balance and sublimated by a signature salt rim. Legend has it that Margaret didn't set out to make her cocktail an icon, but it turned it into the star it is today.
