Unesco artist for peace Guila Clara Kessous
Student of Tal Ben Shahar, Harvard University’s “Happiness Professor”, Guila Clara Kessous offers a unique approach to positive psychology based on artistic creativity. Based on her experience, she has created and developed the “Positive Creativity” test.
After training as an actress at the French Conservatory, Kessous obtained a doctorate under the direction of Nobel Prize recipient Elie Wiesel from Boston University. She also holds degrees from Harvard University, Sorbonne and ESSEC MBA School. She performed in and directed numerous plays in France and abroad in support of human rights with the help of international leaders such as Malala Yousafzai, John Malkovich and Peter Brook. In this vein, Kessous created the course “Theater and Human Rights” at Harvard University and SciencesPo Paris.
Her meeting with Jean Paul Gaultier resulted in the first seminar on the question of ethics in fashion. She has been named an Eleganza Fashion Ambassador at Harvard University where she organized the first « Fashion and Ethics » fashion show to raise funds for the Child Abuse Prevention Council. Kessous has worked in collaboration with high-end fashion brands such as Cartier, Vuitton, Yves St. Laurent, and L’Oréal Luxe, as a scenographer and guest artist to raise awareness and act on social justice issues.
For her numerous humanitarian missions for intercultural dialogue and her work on women’s rights, Guila Clara Kessous was awarded the title of “UNESCO Artist for Peace” in 2012, presented by the UNESCO General Director. She was knighted by the French government and is also the youngest recipient of the title of Officer of Arts and Humanities (Officier Arts & Lettres).
Kessous works today as a senior consultant for CEOs of major French and international companies on topics such as positive leadership, public speaking, conflict resolution (based on a Harvard Program on negotiation methods), as well as CSR, which combines performance art with Kessous’ interdisciplinary approach.
As a consultant and engaged artist, Kessous has accepted an invitation to participate alongside Laetitia Casta in the Cointreau Creative Crew, a project that combines the values of creativity and sharing.
