How to keep your frozen cocktails cold

Nothing kills the mood faster than a frozen cocktail that melts too quickly—non, merci.

  1. To keep your creations perfectly cool, chill your glassware in a freezer for thirty minutes before you pour.
  2. Short on time? Filling a glass with crushed ice and some soda water will have the same effect in just two minutes.
  3. When gathering your ingredients, you might consider adding some extra chill by freezing the fruit overnight before blending everything together

They don’t call it “simple” for nothing—this might just be the easiest cocktail ingredient you’ll ever make.

  1. Combine equal parts water and white sugar in a small saucepan and bring to a boil, stirring constantly.
  2. As soon as the sugar dissolves, turn off the heat.
  3. Allow the syrup to cool completely, then pour into a glass jar with a lid.
  4. Simple syrup can be stored in the refrigerator for about one month.
  5. Once you’ve mastered the basics, you can experiment by adding your favorite flavors. During the boiling stage, try stirring in the seeds from a single vanilla bean, a handful of your favorite herbs, or the juice of 2 or 3 lemons—just make sure to strain out the solids before use.
